Hiking Picture Rock Trail

Picture Rock Trail is a 4-mile loop hike that takes approximately 2-3 hours to complete. The trail can be hiked in either direction, but most people prefer to start on the east side of the loop so that they can end with a gradual descent rather than a more strenuous climb.

The first mile or so of the hike is relatively flat as you wind your way through open meadows and aspen groves. At around 1.5 miles, you’ll reach the base of Picture Rock – a massive sandstone formation that gives the trail its name. The course begins to climb from here as you make your way up to Panorama Point – an overlook with incredible 360-degree views of Longs Peak, Meeker Mountain, and the surrounding area.

After enjoying the views at Panorama Point, continue following the loop until you reach Apple Valley Road, where you started.

Whether you’re looking for breathtaking views or an escape from city life, Picture Rock Trail in Lyons, Colorado, is worth a visit. So grab your hiking boots and water bottle and enjoy all that this beautiful trail has to offer!
